CR CHART: THE KNIGHT'S JOURNAL

Troupe Master Grimm
"But if you wish, my friend, you do not have to be alone."
[♬]
Master of the Troupe. God of nightmares. Lives in dreams. Knows what I am. Why I was made.

Kind to me. Treats me normally. It is nice.

Family. Parent, maybe. Father...?

X Do not use dream nail on him!! X

The enigmatic ringmaster of the Grimm Troupe.

Grimm is the only person on Enso who knows what the Knight's exact circumstances are, and thus doesn't need their clumsy explanations on the various mysteries surrounding them.

In fact, he probably knows more about their creator and about the events leading up to their birth than they themselves do, having confirmed he was once fairly acquainted with their father - though his relationship with the Pale King seems to have been a somewhat distant one.

They've learned much about him in the past few months, especially after the disease Umui brought with it; it was painful to learn how much they have in common - especially being ready for death, but not really being comfortable with it - but it eases the weight of their loneliness.

This just makes them determined to make their time here with him a pleasant one, however. Though the Knight is certainly independent, it's not uncommon to see them accompanying Grimm wherever he chooses to go.
The Drifter
"you are not empty"
[♬]
My friend. Brave. Sick. Does not value self. Does not think self is worth much.

Want to show them they are worth many things.

Gave me a voice. Showed kindness.

Family.

Silent wanderer, treasured friend.

One of the first people that the Knight ever met when they woke up on Enso, and someone who has become very dear to them. The Drifter gave them a voice, put the idea into their head that they were not solely confined to listening, and it is one of the greatest gifts they have ever received from anyone.

They are a capable and competent fighter, and they are one of the most skilled warriors with a blade the Knight has ever encountered. Not that it comes to mind often; they are too busy attempting to convince the Drifter that they're not nearly as unworthy of attachment or affection as they seem to think.

Recent events have shed some light on why the Drifter drives themselves so hard; it worries them even more. What desire they had to challenge themselves against their skill has been replaced by a desire to spend time with them, in order to give them as many positive memories as they can.
"Kittu" (Frisk)
"This can be you. If you want."
Kind. My teacher. Want to know more about them.

Calls me a deer. Said Storyteller could make me one. Will ask sometime.

Willing teacher, giver of candy.

Frisk is still something of a mystery to the Knight (they don't know that Frisk's name isn't actually Kittu, for a start), but they haven't been given much reason to worry...yet. They're fond and protective of their kind-hearted teacher; they see a little of Quirrel in their gentle, soft-spoken demeanor, and that perhaps influences their view.

Still, reminders of the past or not, Frisk is still a person they enjoy being around. But someday, they'd like to make progress on learning more about them - perhaps now that they've learned to ask questions about things, they'll start asking more.
Chara
"I look forward to teaching you more."
Smiles very much. Is a Hunter, in spirit. Clever. Very sharp.

Good with knife but could be better. Maybe should ask = want to learn more ?

Knows many many things about flowers.

Wears mask but on the inside.

Ever-smiling Hunter.

Chara is still mostly a mystery, much like Frisk. They know about them, the things that they can do - that they are an adequate fighter with their signature knife, that they smile all the time regardless of their mood, that they are fascinated with gardening - and that they are...

Well, the Knight's most generous descriptor would be that they are reckless about their own life. It's something that worries them, but also something they feel they can't do much about yet, and so they continue to act as Chara's assistant and eager student. Despite their worries, they are genuinely invested in learning botany and the continued act of caring for living things beyond themselves.

They have grown to known their teacher a little more due to recent events; they have seen small, brief flashes of old wounds and old scars. It makes them sad, certainly, but more than that, it makes them angry, a rare thing. They are sure that these are things Chara did not deserve.
Legion
"You are our ally."
Created. Hurt. Betrayed by people who made them.

We are the same in some ways. I am sad that we are the same in some ways.

Want to give them things. Want to help. They are kind. They are nice to me. Deserve better.

Family.

Officially adopted.

A relatively new arrival, but one that the Knight has quickly attached themselves to. Though the exact circumstances of their respective creations are literally worlds apart, it's a sadly undeniable fact that Legion's suffering, in many ways, has common points with the Knight's own. It makes them protective of their much larger friend, and at times even has them fussing and fretting over things Legion finds much less of a priority.

They're still not entirely certain what Legion is, but to be honest, the specifics don't particularly matter to them - if Legion sees fit to try and explain it to them, they'll listen, but they are content to take their friend as they are, in all aspects.
Ren
"I'm with you, so that makes me very happy."
[♬]
Soft and gentle. Curious. Very kind.

Will protect her.

Wanders a lot. Hides a lot. Feel responsible for her sometimes A LOT. We are the same.

Endlessly curious, despite constant danger.

Ren is sweet and gentle and affectionate
and really should not be thrust into situations where there is a high potential for death and danger and other such risky things. But here she is regardless, ready to wander right into it, and so much like others on the island the Knight feels responsible for her safety.

Protective instincts aside, the Knight simply likes being around Ren. Her total willingness to treat the Knight as a playmate and a friend and someone to be concerned about rather than being scared of them or finding them strange broke through all their emotional barriers quickly.

Due to recent events, she told them about her past as a catalyst; her fate was to be discarded and thrown away. It is a common point between them that they wish they did not share, but if they can soothe her worries about not being worthy of the affection others give her, they will; it matches their own, after all.
Otus
"[hooting softly]"
My friend. No voice like me. Gentle. Soft.

Very shy. Gone now. Will remember.

Will hope for return.

Mute but expressive kindred spirit.

One of the Knight's first friends, and one who they formed a strong bond with from the start. Otus is a shy and gentle boy who has little in the way of combat capabilities (from the Knight's perspective) and would prefer not to fight at all; in some ways they are entirely different. But they are two children attempting to make themselves heard in a world that rarely pays attention to those without voices, and the odd combination makes their bond all the stronger.

The Knight spends quite a bit of time with Otus, considering they live in the same house. Through their combined efforts, they've made things quite cosy, but the Knight has yet to ask about what, exactly, makes Otus so skittish and retiring, and so many things have gone left unsaid. Perhaps one day, they'll be able to ask him properly.
Guzma
"Homie you're dang lucky I like you."
[♬]
Warrior. Fighter. Likes bugs. Rough outside but kind to me.

I like him.

Throwing crumbs at him was funny

A tough exterior shell, concealing a well-meaning heart.

Guzma is a slightly strange one; the Knight has seen plenty of evidence that he's not the friendliest of people, but he's always been fond of the Knight for reasons that they don't quite understand and haven't yet asked about. They have the impression they might be getting away with things that he doesn't let others get away with, but aren't certain why.

Whatever the reasons, the Knight genuinely enjoys spending time in Guzma's company; they aren't afraid of him - it's exactly the opposite, in fact. Though they'd certainly like to understand him better, it's not central to the bond they share.

They'd certainly like to roughhouse with him more, given the chance. Guzma's impromptu bout of wrestling was a reminder that combat isn't always a matter of survivability or worth, but can be done simply for the sheer enjoyment of exertion.
Amaterasu
" I believe we are both very lucky to have such people in our lives. "
Light but does not burn. Helps things grow. Loves them. Kind to me...

Do not understand why she likes me. I am grateful.

A goddess of the sun that does not burn.

Another confusing acquaintance. The Knight knows innately that their nature is anathema to dreams, to light, to warmth - and yet, here is a divine being who not only accepts them but cares for them as if they were simply another living thing under her care.

They can't say they understand it, but they are more grateful for her kindness and affection than their admittedly limited vocabulary can express. Amaterasu's continued presence has made their memories (and sometimes nightmares) of Radiance easier to bear, and they no longer shy away from broad daylight as they did when they first arrived.
Muffet
"Hello, little one."
Spider, but not Herrah-spider. Not like Midwife either.

She is very nice. Looks out for me a lot. Taught me to dance. I like her.

Mother ?

A spider who doesn't want to eat them or hunt them: a first.

Muffet is one of the few they recognise here as being halfway familiar; where others are simply strange creatures for which they have no real name for, Muffet is recognisably a spider, even if she is an odd one. A solid point in a constantly changing world, Muffet just always seems to be there, and it brings the Knight a sort of comfort to see her around.

Her almost motherly affection for them is something that pulls at their heart, for reasons they can't fully explain even to themselves, let alone someone else. But they think this might be what having a parent who cares about them might be like, and that in itself is a strange and wondrous thing.
Magnus Burnsides
"Hail and well met, masked friend!"
Fighter. Strong. Very very very tall.

Reminds me of Nailmasters. Very friendly. I like him.

Loud, boisterous warrior.

The Knight met Magnus in January, when they first arrived, and he made a good impression on them both with his jovial way of greeting them and his excellent fighting skills. This impression has not been dispelled; if anything, it's been added to. Magnus has always been friendly to them, without restraints, and it's gone a long way to making the Knight comfortable with him.

They've taken to riding around on his shoulder as he wanders Enso, or more often tailing him like a little shadow. They're fascinated with Magnus; they don't know much about him, but they'd certainly like to.

Now gone from the island, but certainly not forgotten.
Fang Ray Shin
"I suppose that suits you; you've been very gallant so far."
Nice. Explorer. Good at puzzles?

Sees ghosts like me.

An inquisitive new friend.

The Knight helped Ray out of her underground predicament, and immediately took a liking to her. Though they don't know much about her yet, they're pleased by how willing she is to engage in both new surroundings and conversation.
Chip Abaroa
"Um...hi?"
Soft. Curious. Nice to me. Will protect.

A curious explorer.

The Knight first met Chip during Kaleidoshell season on Enso, and has since felt more and more responsible for at least some part of their wellbeing as time has gone by. They've taken to following Chip about occasionally, partially desiring their company and partially because they'd like to keep them from any accidents that might occur as part of interactions with Enso's wildlife.

In recent times they've learned small fragments about Chip's past and the circumstances that have made them such an anxious, skittish person; it's more accurate to say that they've been presented with a sort of puzzle where most of the pieces are missing. Fortunately or unfortunately, the Knight is adept at piecing together much from very little, and what they have pieced together is...concerning.

Still, they've resolved not to pry too much. Chip will tell them when they're comfortable, if they ever feel comfortable at all. What's important is making them happy.
The Hollow Knight
"..."
[♬]
Will protect. Must protect. Do not want them to hurt anymore.

Sibling. Treasured. Family.

The vessel chosen by the Pale King to bear a terrible burden.

The Knight dreamed of them often, still haunted by the echoes of their cries and their last memories of them. But life works in strange ways, and they've recently appeared on this island, bringing new joy and old pain simultaneously.

That pain is a more than acceptable price to pay for them, though; for their sibling, they would do and suffer anything.

Recently fought with them and suffered an injury that later scarred rather than heal seamlessly, due to the shock. It's a sobering reminder to them that, for all their instinctive attachment, there's still much they don't understand about their sibling - but at the same time, it only fuels their determination to learn.

They spend much of their time patiently coaxing opinions, thoughts and whatever else they can out of their elder sibling. It would be a lie to say this was not partially out of spite for what their father's intentions were, but it's mostly to give them a life they were never able to have.
Kravitz
"It's alright. This is for you more than it is for us."
Kind. Quiet. Serves a god.

Do not know much about him. Would like to.

Someone initially known to them through the kindness he offered to a strange being.

The Knight still knows very little about Kravitz's situation or circumstances; though they'd seen him before, they had no real reason to talk to him until he caught their attention through wanting to help ARUM. His clear determination not to break his word to someone who he had previously promised help, and the compassion he'd showed to them, was more than enough to sway their opinion towards positive.

They have thus far learned that he is bound to serve a goddess of death, and seems worried about her opinion and what she might say given his disobedience. They think that perhaps a goddess who chose him as a representative would be a deity that they would enjoy meeting.
Connor Murphy
"also if youre rly angry you can also just use "fuck""
Smart. Clever. Knows a lot of things.

Want to know him better.

Sure knows a lot of words.

Connor is one of the rare people on Enso that the Knight has actually communicated with through messages left on rocks and words uttered through stones more than in person. Their interactions close up have been through exploration, a thing that the Knight needs little words for.

They've thus far been impressed by both his willingness to get his hands dirty and his willingness to teach them many, many new words and answer their incessant questions, though the answers he gives often mean even more questions. Still, they like him and his way of looking at the world, and at this point at least some of the reason they look for him is simply to see what he'll say next.
